Camera Crew Dictonary & Definitions

DoP

noun – Movies.

1. Director of Photography. The person who is responsible for all operations concerning camerawork and lighting during the production of a film. Also called cinematographer.

Sound Recordist

noun – television cinema

A person responsible for operating the audio recording equipment on a TV or film set. Boom Operators.

Camera Operator

noun –

A person who operates and frames film or television cameras. Camera Assistants help with changing lenes and looking after the camera.

Director

countable noun – 

The director of a play, film, or television programme is the person who decides how it willappear on stage or screen, and who tells the actors and technical staff what to do.

Producer

noun – person responsible for the artistic direction of a play, including interpretation of the scriptpreparation of the actors, and overall design and organization. 

Editor

countable noun –

An editor is a person who prepares a film, or a radio or television programme, by selecting some of what has been filmed or recorded and putting it in a particular order.

DIT

noun – digital imaging technician (DIT) works in the motion picture film industry. Digitization of film footage and storing, preparing and backing up didgital camera footage.

Gaffer

noun – 

the senior electrician on a television or film set. Works with DoP to light sets and manage electric power.
